The small leaves on Acer palmatum ‘Koto maru’ start off yellow-green in spring with a touch of amber maturing to a darker green by summer. Autumn brings a spectacular finish of bright red, orange, and yellow hues. The compact stature makes it ideal for containers on the patio or deck, in the rock garden or any small garden space. Maples dislike wet feet so be sure to plant in well-drained soil. It is not particular as to soil pH, but grows best in rich soils. Will benefit from being planted in a relatively sheltered location. Morning sun and afternoon part shade is ideal. Grows 3 -6 inches per year.
