Pagoda dogwoods are excellent trees for a four-season garden. The unique horizontal branching pattern has a distinct tiered habit, often catching snow in the winter. Clusters of white flowers show up in spring. The pointy green foliage turns a beautiful burgundy in the fall. The blue-black berries attract many birds. It prefers afternoon shade and should be planted in a sheltered location. Best in moist, well-drained soil (it will die in standing water), with rich, acidic soil.
