Seven-Son Flower is a multi-stemmed deciduous shrub with an upright spreading growth habit. Its pointy forest green foliage emerges lime green in spring. It has has panicles of fragrant creamy white flowers at the ends of the branches from late summer to mid fall. What is it mostly known for are the highly ornamental, showy pink capsules that appear from mid to late fall. The whitish-tan bark peels in strips and is striking against a dark background. Use as a specimen plant, at the back of the border, or in a naturalized area. It does not develop any appreciable fall color. It is a low maintenance tree. It should only be pruned in late winter after the threat of extreme cold has passed. It is not particular as to soil type or pH. It attracts butterflies and birds.
