Improved, compact selection noted for its profusion of lovely white flowers with red anthers that appear at the ends of the branches in mid spring. The oval shaped forest green leaves turn a brilliant red in the fall. In late summer the flowers are followed by abundant clusters of glossy red berries that persist from early fall to late winter. Fruit is tart and bitter when eaten fresh, but may be used in preserves. Best fruit production usually occurs in full sun. Aronia is deer resistant and attracts pollinators. It is not only low maintenance, but is also salt tolerant and can help with erosion control. Ability to withstand wet conditions makes it suitable for growing on the margins of ponds or streams (not sitting water).
