Balsam firs are a beautiful native evergreen with dark green foliage. Wonderfully scented needles give rise to upright cones. Provides cover for birds and other small mammals.​ It is similar to Fraser and Canaan Firs. One of the most popular Christmas trees in the northeast.  The smooth gray bark adds an interesting dimension to the landscape.
