One of the hardiest of the evergreen hollies, this is a large, spreading shrub with the traditional spiny oval blue-green foliage that lasts throughout the winter, and abundant showy red berries in winter. Its average texture blends into the landscape, but can be balanced by one or two finer or coarser trees or shrubs for an effective composition. It is a relatively low maintenance shrub, and is best pruned in late winter once the threat of extreme cold has past. It's ideal location is morning sun and afternoon shade/part shade. This is a female variety of the species which requires a male selection of the same species, such as 'Blue Prince', growing nearby in order to set fruit. It is a good choice for attracting birds to your yard. Somewhat urban tolerant and is rabbit resistant.
