Bottlebrush buckeye is one of the best summer-flowering shrubs for shade areas. It can also be planted in sun. It's prized for its spectacular blooms of erect white flower panicles with red anthers and pinking filaments. They are held above the nicely contrasting foliage of palmate leaves, with open bronze, and mature dark green before turning attractive shades of yellow in fall. It is useful as an understory planting in woodland gardens, as a specimen plant, or in a shrub border. This is a large shrub that tends to sucker so it should only be used in large-scale plantings. Attracts butterflies. Deer and rabbit tolerant. Buckeyes are toxic to dogs, cats, and horses.
