An attractive broadleaf evergreen shrub with large bell-shaped trusses of lavender flowers with occasional reddish brown markings provide a spectacular display in spring. The dense, upright habit has a uniform, spreading branch structure with broad, evergreen leaves. It must have well-drained, highly acidic and organic soil. Use plenty of peat moss when planting. This is a relatively low maintenance shrub and should only be pruned after flowering to avoid removing any of the current seasons flowers. Prefers morning sun and afternoon shade. Attracts hummingbirds and butterflies. Rabbit resistant. This is a selection of a native North American species.
