The scale-like foliage is green in summer, developing a brownish tint in winter in the north. The bright blue grape-like fruit is produced in abundance on female trees and is highly ornamental. The best time to prune 'Canaertii' Red Cedars is in late winter after the threat of extreme colds has passed. It requires occasional maintenance and upkeep. Tends to open as it matures. Birds devour the fruit. Its high salt tolerance makes it ideal for seaside locations. Tolerates drought, erosion, and air pollution. This is a selection of a native North American species.
