'Coral Bark' is a stunner and is primarily known for its brilliant coral pink branches that add significant winter interest. At times the color becomes almost fluorescent. The younger the wood, the stronger the color. It features subtle corymbs of red flowers rising about the foliage in mid spring before the leaves. In the spring the light yellow-green leaves have strong reddish margins, giving the tree a striking appearance. As summer approaches, the foliage becomes a bright, light green. The color of the palmate leaves are highly ornamental and turn outstanding shades of yellow gold in the fall, with a blend of apricot and light red. This upright growing tree gradually spreads at the top as it ages.
This tree does best in full sun to partial shade. You may want to keep it away from hot, dry locations that receive direct afternoon sun or which get reflected sunlight, such as against the south side of a white wall. It prefers to grow in average to moist conditions. It is not particular as to soil pH, but grows best in rich soils. It is somewhat tolerant of urban pollution, and will benefit from being planted in a relatively sheltered location. For best color, most maples need a location with part day's sun. Morning sun and afternoon part shade is ideal.
