Dark American Arborvitae makes a great evergreen hedge or can just stand alone as an accent evergreen in any landscape. The scale-like sprays of foliage remain dark green throughout the winter. It will tolerate clay soils and prefers moist but well drained soil.  Dark American Arborvitae will tolerate some shade, but not full shade. Protect from deer browse in areas where populations of deer are high.
