A popular golden weeping willow, Salix alba 'Tristis' is a large deciduous tree boasting a stout trunk topped by a graceful open crown of pendulous, bright yellow twigs that almost touch the ground. In spring and summer, it bears narrow, finely-toothed, bright green to dark green leaves. They turn golden-yellow in the fall, before falling to the ground, reaving the spectacular silhouette of the tree. It makes a spectacular specimen tree near ponds and streams. It is quite adaptable, preferring to grow in average to wet conditions, and will even tolerate some standing water. It is not particular as to soil type or pH. It is highly tolerant of urban pollution and will even thrive in inner city environments.
