Hidcote St. John's Wort is a dense, compact, multi-stemmed deciduous shrub with an upright spreading habit of growth. It produces and abundance of beautiful yellow buttercup flowers from early spring to mid fall. They are borne on reddish, twiggy stems. The saucer-shaped flower presents 5 petals surrounding a prominent tuft of golden stamens and orange anthers. The flowers mature into orange-red berries that are a tread for birds in the fall and winter. Its relatively fine texture sets it apart from other landscape plants with less refined foliage. It is not particular as to soil type or pH. It is drought and urban tolerant. It requires occasional maintenance and upkeep, and should only be pruned after flowering to avoid removing any of the current season's flowers. Attracts birds and pollinators.
