Very floriferous, Lilac Sunday is a deciduous shrub with showy panicles packed with fragrant, single, pale purple flowers. Blooming in late spring, the abundant blossoms are produced not only at the branch tips but also from the lateral buds along the stems, resulting in a lush floral display. Arching under the weight of the numerous blooms, the willowy branches are clothed in fresh green, heart-shaped leaves that remain attractive in summer. Excellent disease resistance. Attracts butterflies and hummingbirds and is deer resistant. Eye catching!
The Arnold Arboretum introduced 'Lilac Sunday' in 1997. This garden favorite can produce clusters of flowers that are more than two feet long.
Did you know.....the oldest reported lilacs in North America were planted in 1750 at the Governor Wentworth estate in Portsmouth, New Hampshire!
