A compact, dwarf spreading version of this native shrub with a blanket of fragrant, creamy-white, 4" spires that droop on the arching branches in late spring to early summer. The flowers open starting at the base, extending towards the tip. This makes the flowers appear to bloom for a longer period of time. The narrow leaves turn an outstanding oranges and reds in the fall. The purple stems can be quite attractive. It requires little pruning or other maintenance. If pruned, it should only be done after flowering to avoid removing any of the current seasons flowers. This shrub performs well in both full sun and full shade. It is an amazingly adaptable plant, tolerating both dry conditions and even some standing water. It is not particular as to soil type or pH. It is somewhat tolerant of urban pollution. Attracts pollinators and is deer resistant. This is a selection of a native North American species. A Proven Winners plant.
