First introduced in 1998 by the Brooklyn Botanical Garden. Magnolia ‘Lois’ is a type of magnolia tree that produces yellow with buttery yellow flower overtones held atop the branches in mid-spring before the leaves. The stunning, fragrant flowers a bloom little later, and longer, than its relatives, which helps the ‘Lois’ variety be safer from frost. The tree is primarily used as an ornamental tree and is valued for the flowers, shade, and beauty it provides. The dark green foliage turn coppery-bronze in the fall. It is not particular as to soil type but like most magnolias, it prefers a moist, fertile and well-drained soil that is slightly acidic. Protect from strong wind to enhance and prolong the flowering season. Attracts bees, butterflies and other wildlife. Deer resistant.
