'Okame' Cherry is stunning as a specimen because it produces abundant, mildly fragrant, rosy-pink flowers in early spring. . The flowers completely cover bare branches, appearing earlier than most and lasting longer than other flowering cherries. The forest green leaves turn shades of orange and red in the fall. The reddish-brown bark adds interest to the landscape. Bees and other pollinators are attracted to the flowers.  It is not particular as to soil pH, but grows best in rich soils. It is highly tolerant of urban pollution and will even thrive in inner city environments.  It is a good choice for attracting birds to your yard.
