Hydrangea paniculata “Grandiflora” is commonly known as Pee Gee Hydrangea. It is a vigorous, upright, rapidly growing deciduous shrub and can easily be pruned or trained into a small, single trunk tree. Pee Gee Hydrangeas produce large, showy conical panicle flowers. The flowers start as creamy white and in late summer, slowly aging to pink and finally fading to brown or tan well into the fall. When in full bloom, the weight of the flowers can cause the branches to arch downward.
Pee Gee Hydrangea flowers on new growth and can be pruned in spring. Pee Gee Hydrangea does well in moist, well drained soil in full sun but will tolerate partial shade. The flowers can be used for fresh cut and dried arrangements.
