An awesome sight in bloom. This 8' tall, 8' wide rounded shrub is vigorous but tight in habit with leathery, serrated dark green foliage. Hundreds of 3" round white popcorn ball flowers line every branch, virtually obscuring the foliage in the spring. Earlier flowering than other f. plicatum types. Also considered to be more heat and drought tolerant. Fall color is an attractive red to burgundy. Prefers moist loams, but tolerates a wide range of soils and has good drought tolerance. Also known as Japanese snowball. This variety sets no fruit, concentrating all its energy on blooms. Attracts birds, bees and butterflies.
