'Purple Fountain' Beech is a stunning tree with a columnar and cascading shape that is ideal for small gardens due to its narrow silhouette. It makes an excellent specimen tree, and despite its weeping form, it does not need staking. Growth is much slower than the typical species. It bears alternate, simple leaves with wavy margins. The leaves start out the summer with a deep purple color, but as the season progresses, the leaves become more green and eventually turn a handsome orange-bronze color in the fall. For best purple color grow in full sun. It can grow in most soil types as long as it is well-drained. The ten year size for this tree is 10 feet high by 3 feet wide.
