Another great oakleaf hydrangea! This variety is a bit more compact that the others, it works in smaller landscapes. A profusion of exceptionally large white upright panicles bloom in summer that quickly age to deep pink. Distinctive, deeply-lobed, somewhat coarse, deep green, oak-like leaves (to 5” long) turn attractive shades of mahogany-red in autumn. Mature stems exfoliate to reveal a rich brown inner bark which is attractive in winter. The compact form works in smaller landscapes and is useful for mass planting, hedges or borders. Oakleaf hydrangeas bloom on last year's growth, so prune them minimally right after they bloom. A plant for all four seasons. Attracts butterflies and bees.
