Saucer Magnolia is a superb accent plant for the average home landscape. The elegant, tulip-shaped flowers of these handsome small trees are among the beauties of spring. Large, fragrant, pinkish-purple color on the outside and a white color on the outside in early spring before the leaves. This tree is typically a heavy bloomer at a young age. New leaves are reddish-bronze which turn dark green with lighter underside in summer, and then a coppery-bronze fall color. Prefers moist, slightly acidic, well-drained soil. Provide a sheltered area from cold, dry winds, as cold winds may damage buds and flowers. Very sensitive to late spring frosts. Attract butterflies, bees, and songbirds. Deer resistant.
