Summer Wine Ninebark is a great plant that has attractive wine colored foliage and a dense, compact habit. It combines the fine texture and compact branching of Physocarpus opulifolious “Nana” with the dark foliage of Physocarpus opulifolious “Diablo”. This a low maintenance plant with few pest problems. Summer Wine Ninebark is an easy way to add color to any landscape. It is easily grown in average, dry to medium moisture, well drained soil in full sun to part shade. Prune as needed after it blooms. If pruning is done too late in the season, you will cut of next year’s blooms. Small pinkish flowers appear along the arching branches in late May into June. The common name of Physocarpus is Ninebark coming from its shaggy, deeply peeled bark that appears after it is a few years old.
If you are looking to add beautiful color and vibrancy to your gardens, especially in the spring, then Stratham Circle Nursery would recommend Summer Wine Bark.
