Summer Wine Ninebark combines the fine texture and compact branching of Physocarpus 'Nana' with the dark foliage of Physocarpus Diabolo. It features showy clusters of white flowers at the ends of the branches from late spring to early summer, which emerge from distinctive pink flower buds. It has attractive deep purple deciduous foliage which emerges crimson in spring. The serrated lobed leaves are highly ornamental. This is a low maintenance plant with few pest problems. Summer Wine Ninebark is an easy way to add color to any landscape. The peeling tan bark and dark red branches add an interesting dimension to the landscape. Summer Wine may even be cut for use in arrangements. It is easily grown in average, dry to medium moisture, well drained soil in full sun. Prune as needed after it blooms. If pruning is done too late in the season, you will cut of next year’s blooms.
